Science-Minded Middle School Girls Graduate from Summer Program at Penn Engineering School


WHAT:

Middle school girls from the University of Pennsylvania’s summer education program Penn GEMS (Girls in Engineering, Math and Science) Camp will graduate from the program. The ceremony will include animation projects, video and robots programmed over the course of the week by the students.

Women make up approximately 30 percent of Penn’s School of Engineering and Applied Science incoming class each year, 10 percent better than the national average. GEMS, part of Penn’s Advancing Women in Engineering program, is dedicated to recruiting, retaining and promoting women in Penn Engineering.

Classes included hands-on laboratory techniques, robotics training, renewable energy, computer science and biotechnology.

Girls entering 6th, 7th or 8th grade participating in GEMS.
