PHILADELPHIA – Three University of Pennsylvania professors, Terry Adkins, Ken Lum and Joshua Mosley, all PennDesign faculty, have been chosen to participate in the Whitney Biennial, the largest and most influential exhibition of contemporary art in the United States.  Anthony Elms, an associate curator at the Institute of Contemporary Art of the University of Pennsylvania, is one of three curators chosen to organize the exhibition.

Featuring 103 artists from across the country, the event will be held at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City from March 7 through May 25, 2014.

“The fact that Penn will be represented in such unique ways on all three floors is reflective of the diversity of our departments’ strengths and abilities to synthesize a very broad range of approaches to practice-based research,” said Mosley, PennDesign fine arts chair.

In addition to Elms, two other curators from outside the museum were chosen for the exhibition. They are Stuart Comer, the chief curator of media and performance art at the Museum of Modern Art and Michelle Grabner, a professor in the painting and drawing department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Each will oversee one floor of the museum.

The 2014 Biennial is the last one to be held at the Whitney’s building at 945 Madison Avenue before the museum moves to its new home in the Meatpacking District in 2015.
