Tree Planting on College Green Celebrates Penn’s Tree Campus USA Designation From Arbor Day Foundation

 

WHAT: University of Pennsylvania students and community volunteers will plant 45 trees on campus to celebrate the University’s earning the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree Campus USA designation. The trees will be planted on College Green.

Since the Tree Campus USA program began in 2008, when 29 colleges and universities earned this honor, participation has more than doubled. To celebrate this success, tree-planting events are being held on five college campuses, including Penn’s.

WHO: Making brief remarks will be Anne Papageorge, vice president of Penn’s Division of Facilities and Real Estate Services, and Paul Meyer, director of Penn’s Morris Arboretum, as well as representatives from the Arbor Day Foundation and corporate sponsor Toyota.

: Penn is one of 74 schools across the country to be recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation as a 2009 Tree Campus USA school. This program honors college campuses and nearby neighborhood leaders for promoting healthy urban forest management and engaging the campus community in environmental stewardship.
