Two Penn Ph.D. Students Awarded 2017 Mellon ACLS Dissertation Completion Fellowships

Two University of Pennsylvania doctoral students, Devin Curry and Nabeel Hamid, have been awarded dissertation completion fellowships for 2017-18 from the American Council of Learned Societies. Each student is completing a degree in the Philosophy Department of the School of Arts & Sciences.

Curry and Hamid are among 65 students named Mellon/ACLS Dissertation Completion Fellows from a pool of more than 1,000 applicants. Now in its 11th year, the fellowship program provides a $30,000 stipend and as much as $8,000 in research funds and university fees to advanced graduate students in their final year of dissertation writing.

Curry will use the fellowship for his project, Believers, a study of what believing is. 

Hamid will use the fellowship for his project, Being and the Good: Natural Teleology in Early Modern German Philosophy.
