Two University of Pennsylvania Seniors and a Penn Alumna Win Gates Cambridge Scholarships
PHILADELPHIA –- A pair of University of Pennsylvania seniors and a Penn alumna are among 29 Gates Cambridge Scholarship winners from the United States. They will begin their graduate studies at the University of Cambridge in England in October. They bring the number of Penn winners to 20.
The scholarship winners selected are:
• Donielle Johnson, a senior from Alexandria, Va. She will graduate from Penn’s School of Arts and Sciences in May. She is studying psychology and the biological basis of behavior and will pursue an M.Phil. in medical sciences (psychiatry) at Cambridge. • Jill Portnoy, a senior from Pittsburgh, Pa.m She will graduate from Penn’s School of Arts and Sciences in May. She is studying criminology and Hispanic studies and will pursue an M.Phil. in criminological research at Cambridge. At Cambridge the three will join fellow Gates Scholars from 58 countries studying arts, science, humanities, social science, technology and medicine.
