University of Pennsylvania to Be Honored With Urban League of Philadelphia's Inaugural Vision Award

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania will be honored June 6 by the Urban League of Philadelphia for its commitment to workforce diversity and business-inclusion programs.

On behalf of Penn, Jeffrey Cooper, vice president for government and community relations, will accept the inaugural Vision Award, which the League will present annually to a business or institution to recognize progress in achieving greater racial diversity in the local corporate world that leads in turn to greater economic inclusion and growth for the region.

“It is truly an honor to be recognized by the Urban League for our commitment to workforce-diversity and business-inclusion programs,” Penn President Amy Gutmann said. “Penn takes pride in our ongoing commitment to diversity in contracting, purchasing and workforce development and in our core belief that the University’s success is inextricably linked with the economic vitality of this great city. Penn has a longstanding commitment to using knowledge acquired and created on campus for the greater good of our community and the world.”

The award presentation will be held at the Urban League’s Equal Opportunity Gala at the Philadelphia Marriott Hotel. The event will cap an Empowerment Week of special events, including a series of June 3 seminars and a June 5 symposium on CEO diversity and inclusion.
