WHAT: Agatston Urban Nutrition Initiative’s YouthWorks, a celebration of end-of-summer youth-development programs, sponsored by the Netter Center for Community Partnerships at the University of Pennsylvania.
Activities will include:
• A tour of the Sayre Courtyard Garden, where students will do their weekly harvest for local farmers markets.
• Preparation and sampling of healthy snacks and meals prepared by peer nutrition education crews from Sayre, University City and West Philadelphia high schools.
• The premiere of a lifestyle video produced by a youth-led Food Systems Video Crew, who filmed activities at all of AUNI's worksites to show the impact of the youth-development programming on the West Philadelphia community.
• A display of jams, jellies and preserves prepared by Sayre’s garden crew using their produce during a weekly food-preservation workshop at Greensgrow Farms.
WHO: Students participating in the AUNI crews at the three high schools also will describe their summer experiences in group presentations.
