A quarter-century of gay radio

A quiet revolution began here at Penn 25 years ago this month, when "Gaydreams" and "Amazon Country" made their debut on WXPN. The two shows, produced by volunteers, offered information and support for the city's emerging gay and lesbian community.

Today, "Amazon Country" and "Q'zine" (as "Gaydreams" is now called) are among the longest-running gay and lesbian/feminist radio shows in the country. Both shows will feature special segments this month looking back at their history. "Amazon Country" and "Q'zine" air Sunday nights beginning at 9 p.m. on WXPN-FM (88.5).
