Obama nominates Penn alum to be U.S. Ambassador to China
Jon Huntsman, Jr. C’87 has been nominated by President Barack Obama to serve as Ambassador to China.
Huntsman is the current Governor of Utah and has held several foreign policy posts throughout his career, including Deputy Trade Ambassador from 2001 to 2003; Ambassador to the Republic of Singapore from 1992 to 1993; and Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce, Trade Development Bureau, from 1989 to 1990. He has worked as a White House staff assistant to President Ronald Reagan and held several business leadership positions in the Huntsman Company. Huntsman, 49, is also fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
