Jacob “Jake” Lewko, a senior captain on the Ivy League Champion Penn football team, was recently named to the prestigious AFCA Football Championship Subdivision Coaches’ All-America Team.

Unlike the Associated Press and Sporting News All-America Teams, which pick first, second and third teams, the American Football Coaches Association picks only one 25-player team for each NCAA division. The team is unique because the players are selected solely by football coaches.

Lewko, a Medford, N.J. native enrolled in the Wharton School, was the only Ivy League player to make the team, and one of just 28 Ivy League players honored by the AFCA in the past 31 years.

A 6’1’’ 240 lb. linebacker, Lewko led the dominating Quaker defense with 76 tackles, including 36 solo, and also amassed two sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and one blocked kick. The Quakers led the entire Division I, both FCS and FBS, in scoring defense, giving up only 9.5 points per game.

Lewko has collected almost as many postseason awards as tackles. He was a unanimous All-Ivy First Team selection and was elected FCS College Player of the Year by the Brooks-Irvine Memorial Football Club. He was also an Associated Press FCS All-America Third Team member.

Along with Brown University wide receiver Buddy Farnham, Lewko was named co-Ivy League Player of the Year. He is the first Quaker bestowed with the honor since 2003, and the first Penn defensive player to win the award since 1994.

NFLDraftScout.com ranks Lewko as one of the top 50 linebackers in the country.
