The Penn Arts Crawl, happening Friday, Oct. 22, isn’t just for students. Faculty and staff can attend too, during their lunch hour or after work. The Crawl will take place at several sites on campus and at nearby venues like World Cafe Live, The Rotunda and International House.

This is the second year Penn has hosted The Crawl. In 2009, it was established as part of the University’s Arts and the City Year. Ty Furman, director of University Life Arts Initiatives, says this year’s Crawl, while designed primarily for students, also appeals to faculty and staff.

“Most staffers aren’t aware of all the fantastic arts and culture opportunities at Penn,” he says. “They can grab lunch and come to a gallery on campus and see exhibitions that will run for months.”

Arts crawlers will have the opportunity to see new fall exhibitions at the Institute of Contemporary Art, 118 South 36th St., and at the Arthur Ross Gallery, 220 South 34th St. Both exhibitions are free and open to the public.

At noon tomorrow, Kelly Writers House and Penn Press will sponsor the Arts Crawl lunch talk, “A Skeptic’s Guide to Writers’ Houses,” at Writers House, 3805 Locust Walk. Interested parties can RSVP at 215-746-POEM or email wh@writing.upenn.edu.

Also at noon, WXPN is presenting a free concert by the band Guster at World Cafe Live, 3025 Walnut St. Advance registration is required at xpn.org/free-at-noon/guster.

The Crawl continues into the evening with “Up On Stage” at the Platt Student Performing Arts House, 3702 Spruce St. Scheduled for 8:30 p.m., the event is billed as “Penn’s real open-mic series” where students, faculty and staff regularly showcase their talents.
