How do I get a locker at the gym?

Dear Benny:
I recently began working out at the Pottruck Center. It is an amazing facility but I noticed that there are very few unoccupied lockers. How do I go about getting one?

Dear Health Nut,
Men’s and women’s locker room locker rentals are made available through a general lottery system each summer.

Locker combinations for locker renewals and locker lottery winners will be available in the Membership Services Office on Monday, August 24, 2009.
Any available lockers will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis on Tuesday, September 1, beginning at 7 a.m. in the Membership Services Office, 3701 Walnut St.

At the Pottruck Center, full-length lockers are $150; half-length lockers (in the locker room) are $125; half-length lockers on floors 1-4 are $75 and quarter-length lockers are $50.

For the Hutchinson Gymnasium, at 219 S. 33rd St., a full-length locker is $150 and a half-length locker is $75.

Day lockers are located on the first through fourth floors of the Pottruck Center and in the main hallway of Hutchinson Gym. Personal belongings (gym bags, backpacks, etc) are not permitted in studios, fitness centers, hallways or gymnasiums and must be secured in day lockers, which require a personal lock. Individuals are prohibited from placing items in a day locker and leaving the facility. Failure to do so will result in a $25.00 recovery free for the items. The Department of Recreation is not responsible for lost or stolen personal items.

Coin-operated lockers are available in the hallways on the 3rd and 4th floors. Coin-operated lockers require a quarter deposit for use, and upon return of the key, the quarter is returned to the user.

For more information, contact the Department of Recreation at 215-898-6100 or www.upenn.edu/recreation.
