Penn president Amy Gutmann helped prepare report on restoring faith in the media

President Amy Gutmann contributed to the Knight Foundation’s report on the state of diversity, transparency, and public faith in the media. “We call on and depend upon media for speaking across multiple perspectives,” Gutmann said. “You can only do that if you have a newsroom where there is that kind of diversity of backgrounds and perspectives.”

Penn honors 1978-79 Final Four team

On Saturday, Jan. 12, Penn President Amy Gutmann was on hand at the Penn vs. Princeton game at the Palestra. While the men’s basketball team lost, 62-53, the 1978-79 team was honored during halftime of the game. The 1978-79 Quakers are the last Ivy League team to reach the Final Four.

For democracy to flourish, we must fight the assault on free press

In an op-ed, President Amy Gutmann wrote about the role of journalism and free speech in democracy. “I am grateful for journalists who go to work every day to champion open inquiry and constitutional democracy. In many ways, these days are darker than we have seen in some time. But every day, you go to work on behalf of free speech and honest and open inquiry,” she wrote.
