50th annual Antiques Show benefits ovarian cancer research

Looking for that perfect antique piece for your home? You may be able to find it—and simultaneously help Penn Medicine fight ovarian cancer—at the Philadelphia Antiques Show.

One of the longest-running antiques shows in the country, the event runs from Saturday, April 9, through Tuesday, April 12, at the Navy Yard, Philadelphia Cruise Terminal at Pier One, 5100 S. Broad St. The extravaganza features diverse period furnishings, folk and fine art pieces, ceramics, porcelain, jewelry and textiles.

This year, the Antiques Show marks its 50th year as the major fundraiser for Penn Medicine. Organizers are expecting 10,000 visitors and hope to raise nearly $1 million for the Penn Ovarian Cancer Research Center, a joint initiative of the Abramson Cancer Center and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Jordan Center for Gynecologic Cancer.

During the past half century, according to the Antiques Show website, the exhibition has raised more than $17 million to fund programs and initiatives with a direct impact on patient care at Penn Medicine, including the Trauma Center, the Transplant Institute and the Penn Lung Center.

A special display, “Antiques in Bloom,” pairs 50 local florists with 50 of the country’s leading dealers to enhance the presentation of the antique objects and their stories.

“The Philadelphia Antiques Show and the 50 leading antiques dealers and galleries who comprise the show continue to set the standard for outstanding quality and integrity,” says show chair Patricia Cheek. “We look forward to celebrating 50 years as the nation’s foremost arts and antiques show.”

This year’s fair takes place during the Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts, a 25-day celebration focusing on collaboration, innovation and creativity among the city’s arts organizations and cultural programs.

An Antiques Show Preview Gala will be held on Friday, April 8, from 6 to 10 p.m. Advance tickets are required.
