Grammy-Winning Penn Alumnus John Legend Honored at 12th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Lecture in Social Justice
WHO: John Legend, University of Pennsylvania alumnus and nine-time Grammy Award-winning recording artist.
Legend has drawn attention to global poverty and education. He’s performed numerous benefit concerts and launched the Show Me Campaign, a non-profit organization fighting poverty.
WHAT: The 12th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Lecture in Social Justice, which honors individuals and scholars of African-American descent who have committed themselves to social justice.
As a part of Penn’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Symposium for Social Change, John Legend will sit down and have a conversation with Camille Z. Charles, director of the Center for Africana Studies and professor at Penn.

This year, Penn’s 17th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Symposium for Social Change offers nearly 25 free events open to the public, including the Day of Service activities on Monday, Jan. 21; the Interfaith Program and Awards Commemoration on Thursday, Jan. 24; Jazz for King on Friday, Jan. 25; “Let’s Talk About Race” interactive discussion on Wednesday, Jan. 30; and Performance Art for Social Change on Friday, Feb. 1.
