PHILADELPHIA -- Computerworld has selected the University of Pennsylvania as No. 8 of the top work places for information technology professionals in America and as the top workplace for IT professionals in the Mid-Atlantic states.

Frank Claus   As associate vice president for finance at the University of Pennsylvania, overseeing Student Financial Services, Mr. Claus and his staff have been helping Penn students fund their Ivy League education since 1988.

WHAT:  "The Role of Mayors in Urban Transformation" is the focus of the annual Urban Leadership Luncheon panel, sponsored by the Penn Institute for Urban Research at the University of Pennsylvania. The panel, moderated by Susan M. Wachter, co-director of Penn IUR, will discuss the challenges facing urban mayors.  

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - University of Pennsylvania President Amy Gutmann will deliver the May 22 commencement address to 850 graduates at Wesleyan University during the school's 173rd commencement exercises.Gutmann also will be one of four people to receive honorary degrees from Wesleyan that day.

WHO:  Marjorie O. Rendell, a judge with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and a 1969 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, will be honored with the 2005 Beacon Award from the Trustees' Council of Penn Women.

PHILADELPHIA -- Marjorie O. Rendell, a member of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit since 1997, will receive the 2005 Beacon Award from the University of Pennsylvania's Trustees' Council of Penn Women during a luncheon ceremony April 15.

PHILADELPHIA -- A weeklong "Celebration of Giving," March 14-18, will surround the March 17 dedication and renaming of Spruce College House as Riepe College House in honor of Trustees Chairman James Riepe and his wife Gail, a member of the Board of Overseers for Penn's School of Veterinary Medicine.

WHO: Approximately 270 children and youths who attend sessions at the 23 Police Athletic League Centers throughout Philadelphia will be special guests of the University of Pennsylvania Division of Public Safety.  

PHILADELPHIA -- Michael E. Harris has been appointed associate vice president in the Office of the Executive Vice President at the University of Pennsylvania.  He assumes his new position Feb. 1.

PHILADELPHIA -- Bonnie C. Gibson has been appointed vice president for budget and management analysis at the University of Pennsylvania.  Gibson had been serving as the acting executive director for that department since January 2003.
