The men’s and women’s track & field teams hopped, skipped, and jumped over to New Jersey over the weekend to compete in the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton. A trio of Quakers returned to Philadelphia with first-place honors.
Junior Michael Keehan of the men’s team won the steeplechase with a time of 8:48.50. Junior Carlos Santos of Stony Brook placed second (8:48.87), senior Samuel Gerstenbacher of the F&M Track Club placed third (8:51.03), and Penn senior William Hare placed fourth (8:54:18).
Senior Mayyi Mahama of the women’s team took the top spot in the hammer throw with a toss of 64.26m (210 feet, 10 inches). She bested senior Emily Mikoud of Army West Point (61.21m), freshman Emily Fink of Army West Point (56.96m), and senior Jessica Molina of Rutgers (56.49m). Mahama is the school record-holder in the hammer throw (65.66m).
Senior Skyla Wilson of the women’s team was victorious in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.22. Her teammate, senior , finished second (59.41), Sanaa Hebron of VMOVE finished third (59.96), and Penn sophomore finished fourth (1:00.96). Wilson holds the school record in the outdoor 400m hurdles (58.26).
