Sydney Mandato, a second-year midfielder on the field hockey team, has been selected to the 2024-25 USA Field Hockey Senior U.S. Women’s Indoor National Team. Mandato, a finance major in the Wharton School from Telford, Pennsylvania, was one of 10 players recently selected, eight of whom are from Pennsylvania.
U.S. Women’s National Indoor Team Head Coach Jun Kentwell named Mandato to the team after an in-person tryout on July 28. She will be playing for the Indoor National Team for the second consecutive year. A third and final tryout will be held on Dec. 14. The senior squad will compete in the RohrMax Cup from Dec. 30 to Jan. 6 in Vienna, Austria, and the 2025 FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup from Feb. 3-9 in Poreč, Croatia. In March, the team won gold at the 2024 Indoor Pan American Cup.
Last season, Mandato played in all 17 games for the Quakers and made one start.
This past weekend, Penn commenced its 2024 season in the ACC/Ivy League Conference Crossover in Louisville, Kentucky. The Quakers took on No. 2-ranked North Carolina on Friday and No. 7-ranked Louisville on Sunday.
The Quakers were picked third in the Ivy League Preseason Poll behind Harvard and Princeton. Penn opens conference play at home on Sept. 20 against the Tigers at Vagelos Field.
