Penn leaves it all on the pitch, but falls to Princeton

The women’s soccer team’s phenomenal season came to an end over the weekend with a loss at Princeton.

The women’s soccer team’s season for the ages came to an end on Saturday after they suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Princeton in New Jersey.

Mimi Asom on the Tigers scored a goal in the 31st minute, the deciding score in the game. It was only the second time the Quakers had trailed all season. The Red & Blue forced three corners in the final minute, but could not get the ball in the net. The loss was their first road defeat this season.

Sophomore midfielder Breukelen Woodard had 2 shots and 2 shots on goal. Senior midfielder Allie Trzaska had 3 shots and 1 shot on goal. Junior goalkeeper Kitty Qu had a season-high 8 saves.

The loss snapped Penn’s 12-game unbeaten streak. The Quakers finish the season 13-2-1 overall and 5-1-1 in the Ivy League. The 13 wins are tied for third-most all-time in school history. The Red & Blue only gave up five goals all season, the fewest in program history. 

Junior forward Emily Sands finishes the season third in the conference in goals (8), fourth in points (18), and first in game-winning goals (7). Trzaska finishes second in the Ivy League in assists (7). Qu finishes first in goals against average (.352), save percentage (.912), and second in shutouts (9).

Penn and Princeton are co-champions of the Ivy League with identical 5-1-1 records, but Princeton earned the automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.
