Penn track and field athletes took their talents to South Beach on Saturday for the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational in Miami and returned with first-place finishes in four events.
First-year Moforehan Abinusawa won the women’s 100m with a time of 11.63, second-best in school history. First-year Christiana Nwachuku came in second with a time of 11.83, fifth-best in school history. Second-year Caia Gelli placed 10th with a time of 12.21. 2017 alumna Taylor McCorkle holds the school record with a time of 11.56.
Abinusawa, Nwachuku, third-year Isabella Whittaker, and fourth-year Katherine Muccio took the top spot in the women’s 4x100m with a time of 45.60, fifth-best in school history.
On the men’s side, first-year Andrew O’Donnell, first-year Devante Heywood, fourth-year Robbie Ruppel, and fourth-year Antaures Jackson won the 4x400m with a time of 3:12.28.
Second-year James Rhoads placed first in the pole vault with a mark of 5.25m. Third-year Scott Toney placed sixth with a mark of 4.90m, and second-year Benedikt Šachta placed seventh with a mark of 4.90m.
The Quakers placed second in four other events. Second-year Nataliia Ilieva finished second in the women’s pole vault with a leap of 4.05m—the second-best mark in school history. 2017 alumna Molly Minnig holds the school record with a leap of 4.07.
Fourth-year Tamara Grahovac placed second in the women’s high jump with a mark of 12.73m.
First-year Shane Gardner, Heywood, fourth-year Emerson Douds, and second-year Aaron Stillitano placed second in the men’s 4x100 with a time of 40.92.
Fourth-year Mark Anselmi finished second in the men’s high jump with a mark of 1.96m.
