Women’s soccer continues hot streak with defeat of Columbia

In the 1-0 victory on Friday, junior midfielder Emily Sands scored her fifth game-winning goal of the season.

And the beat goes on for the Penn women’s soccer team, which notched its seventh straight game without a loss on Friday, besting Columbia 1-0 at Rhodes Field.

Junior midfielder Emily Sands scored her fifth game-winning goal of the season in the 51st minute, on an assist by senior midfielder Allie Trzaska.

Junior goalkeeper Kitty Qu had four saves, and extended her career solo shutout record to 17 games. Qu and the Quakers have not given up a goal in five games, totaling more than 450 goalless minutes. 

Sands, second in points in the Ivy League and third in goals, had 3 shots, 2 shots on goal, and 1 goal. Trzaska, second in the Ivy League with 6 assists on the season, had 3 shots, 1 shot on goal, and 1 assist.

The Quakers are 8-1-1 on the season, the best start in program history, and undefeated in Ivy League play.
