Women’s soccer gives Big Red the blues

The Quakers move to 7-1-1 with a victory over Cornell on Saturday, their best start in school history.

Off to their best start in program history, the Penn women’s soccer team improved to 7-1-1 over the weekend with a 2-0 win over Cornell on Saturday evening in Ithaca, N.Y.

Junior midfielder Emily Sands scored her fourth goal of the season in the 59th minute, on an assist from junior forward Emma Loving, to give Penn a 1-0 lead. 

In the 82nd minute, senior midfielder Allie Trzaska scored her first goal of the season, assisted by sophomore defender Jadyn Wilensky.

Junior goalkeeper Kitty Qu had three saves and earned her sixth shut out of the season, tied for the most in school history. The victory was Penn’s fourth straight game without giving up a goal.

The Red & Blue are a perfect 3-0 on the road (4-0 counting the neutral site win over Delaware). 

Next on the schedule is Columbia on Friday, Oct. 5, at Rhodes Field.
