Showcasing undergraduate student research with Penn faculty, a record 361 posters were on display with students presenting their work at the Fall Research Expo sponsored by the Center for Undergraduate Research and Fellowships in Houston Hall.

Sixteen Penn students and recent graduates awarded 2020-21 Fulbright Scholarships

Sixteen Penn students and recent graduates have been awarded Fulbright Scholarships for the 2020-21 academic year to conduct research or teach English in countries around the world. The list includes nine undergraduates and one graduate student in the Class of 2020.

Alum Shadrack Frimpong, who earned an undergraduate degree in 2015 and a master’s in 2019 from Penn, has received a 2020 Gates Cambridge Scholarship.

Shadrack Frimpong, Penn graduate and 2015 Presidents Engagement Prize winner, has been awarded a Gates Cambridge Scholarship to pursue a Ph.D. in public health and primary care at the University of Cambridge in England.

English major Misha McDaniel has been awarded a 2020 Beinecke Scholarship to pursue graduate education. McDaniel is one of 18 Beinecke Scholars chosen from throughout the U.S., and the 13th recipient from Penn since the award was first given in 1975.

Penn announces seven 2020 Thouron Award winners

Four seniors and three recent alumni have won a Thouron Award to pursue graduate studies in the United Kingdom. Each scholarship winner receives tuition for as long as two years, as well as travel and living stipends, to earn a graduate degree.

Senior Srinivas Mandyam has been awarded a Churchill Scholarship for a year of graduate research study at University of Cambridge.

Mandyam will graduate in May with a bachelor’s degree in physics, mathematics, and biophysics, along with a master’s in physics; the scholarship awards him a year of graduate research study in physics at the University of Cambridge.

Penn has two 2020 Marshall Scholars

Erin Hartman, a 2018 graduate of the School of Nursing, and senior psychology major Christina Steele have been named Marshall Scholars. Established by the British government, the Marshall Scholarship funds up to three years of study for a graduate degree in the United Kingdom.
