In the School of Arts & Sciences, Colton Sheehan, a sixth-year Ph.D. student in the lab of Thomas Mallouk, Vagelos Professor in Energy Research, has been named a Schmidt Science Fellow—a prestigious honor given to “the next generation of science leaders, transcending disciplines and working to solve the world’s most pressing problems.”
Two faculty members in Penn’s School of Dental Medicine have been recognized for their research by the International Association for Dental Research: Chenshuang Li, associate professor of orthodontics received the 2026 IADR Young Investigator Award, and Zhi Ren, assistant professor in the Department of Endodontics and the Center for Innovation & Precision Dentistry, received 2026 IADR Joseph Lister Award.
In the School of Engineering and Applied Science, Sherry Gao, Presidential Penn Compact Associate Professor in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, has received a Maximizing Investigators’ Research Award from the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute of General Medical Sciences to support her research on precision genome engineering and the discovery of novel products from natural fungi.
In the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School, Christopher S. Yoo, Imasogie Professor in Law and Technology, was named a recipient of a 2026 Antitrust Writing Award for his article, “Big Data and Competition Law: Lessons from Innovation Markets,” published in the Antitrust Law Journal (Vol. 87, 2025).
Dawn Elizabeth Bent, administrator for the DNP-Nurse Anesthesia Program and assistant practice professor in the Department of Biobehavioral Health Sciences in Penn’s School of Nursing, has been elected a Distinguished Fellow of the National Academies of Practice.
And in the Wharton School, vice dean of the MBA Program for Executives Mauro F. Guillén was named a Commander of the Royal Order of Civil Merit by King Felipe VI of Spain—one of the country’s highest distinctions.
