First-year forward Katie Collins of the women’s basketball team has been selected Ivy League Rookie of the Week, the fifth time this season she has been recognized by the conference.
Collins, from Manasquan, New Jersey, averaged 13.0 points, 6 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block in contests versus Brown and Yale.
In a 65-57 loss to Brown on Friday in Rhode Island, Collins had 9 points, 9 rebounds, 4 steals, 1 block, and 1 assist in 37 minutes. She shot 3-7 from the field, 1-3 from the 3-point line, and 2-2 from the foul line.
Against Yale on Saturday in Connecticut, Collins was one of four players to score in double figures in Penn’s 80-60 win. She had 17 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, and 1 block in 34 minutes. She shot 6-9 from the field, 4-4 from behind the arc, and 1-2 from the free throw line.
For the season, Collins is averaging 8.9 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game. She has started all 20 games and plays 32.4 minutes per outing. She ranks first in the Ivy League in blocks per game, third in rebounds per game, and eighth in minutes per game.
Penn is 11-9 overall and 2-5 in the conference headed into this weekend’s matchup against Princeton (15-5 overall, 6-1 in conference) on Saturday in New Jersey.
