Accounting for six touchdowns—five through the air and one on the ground—junior quarterback Eddie Jenkins led the Penn sprint football team to a 54-21 victory over Mansfield on Saturday in northern Pennsylvania.
Mansfield scored first, returning the opening kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown. The Quakers answered with an 8-play, 61-yard drive topped off by Jenkins’ first score, a 4-yard run.
The Mounties responded with an 81-yard touchdown pass. The Red & Blue countered with a 58-yard touchdown pass from Jenkins to senior wide receiver Aidan Kelly.
Penn forced a three and out, and the Quaker offense matriculated down the field on an 8-play, 57-yard drive, which culminated in Jenkins’ third touchdown, a 4-yard pass to freshman tight end Ben Klaus.
At the end of the first quarter, Penn was up 21-12.
Jenkins and Klaus connected again in the second quarter on a 16-yard touchdown pass. Senior running back Jake Klaus added a 4-yard scamper to give the Quakers a 34-21 halftime lead.
The Quaker defense shut out Mansfield in the second half, while offense continued to light up the scoreboard.
Jenkins found freshman wide receiver Brendan McCaffrey for a 12-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter, Jenkins’ fifth score of the day.
In the fourth, Jake Klaus scored on a two-yard run, and Jenkins connected with freshman running back/wide receiver Sam Mintz for a 24-yard score.
Jenkins finished the game 15-22 for 240 yards and 5 touchdowns through the air, and 13 rushes for 126 yards and a touchdown. Jake Klaus had 30 rushes for 132 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The Quakers finished the game with 569 total yards, 30 first downs, and controlled the clock 37:30 to 22:30.
