After posting a career-high 13 tackles (eight solo), two tackles for loss, and two quarterback hurries in the football team’s 23-17 double-overtime win over Dartmouth on Friday, fourth-year defensive lineman Jake Heimlicher has been named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week.

From Aurora, Colorado, Heimlicher was last week’s recipient as well, making him the first player in school history to earn Defensive Player of the Week honors in consecutive weeks, and only the eighth player all-time in conference history.

Heimlicher and Penn’s defense held Dartmouth, the defending Ivy League co-champions, to 193 yards on the ground, far off their average of 350.5 rushing yards per game. The victory halted a four-game losing streak to the Big Green, and was the first overtime win for the Quakers since 2017.

Through three games, Heimlicher ranks second in the conference in tackles (28), first in solo tackles (17), second in tackles per game (9.3), and first in sacks (three). He leads the Red & Blue in all major statistical defensive categories except interceptions.

Defensively, Penn ranks first in the Ivy League in points allowed per game (10.3), yards allowed per game (235.0), passing yards allowed per game (156.0), and ranks third in sacks (12).

The Quakers (3-0) head to the nation’s capital on Saturday to take on Georgetown (1-4) at 2 p.m.
