Quakers Choice Awards hail fourth-year student-athletes

Five Quakers were recognized for their work in the classroom and on the track, field, diamond, and water.

Five fourth-year student-athletes were recently honored by Penn Athletics at the annual Quakers Choice Awards banquet at a decked-out Palestra.

Wyatt Henseler of the baseball team received the Class of 1915 Award. Presented each year since 1931, the award is bestowed to the male student-athlete who best exemplifies the spirit and tradition of Penn Athletics. The recipient must be a senior student-athlete who has at least a 3.0 grade point average and shows outstanding athletic, academic, and leadership qualities. Voting is conducted by the head coaches of Penn’s varsity men’s programs.

Niki Miles of the women’s lacrosse team and Isabella Whittaker of the women’s track and field team were the co-recipients of the Association of Alumnae Fathers’ Trophy. Awarded yearly since 1945, the trophy recognizes a female student-athlete for her contributions to women’s athletics at Penn. The awardees must be a senior student-athlete who has at least a 3.0 grade point average and shows outstanding athletic, academic, and leadership qualities. Voting is conducted by the head coaches of Penn’s varsity women’s programs.

James Shipley of the men’s lacrosse team was the male recipient of the Norman J. Goldring Prize, and Eve Chiarello of the women’s rowing team was the female recipient of the Norman J. Goldring Prize. The award is conferred to one graduating male and one graduating female student-athlete with the highest grade point average who earned a varsity letter in his/her fourth-year season. 

Chiarello also received the George H. Frazier Prize. The award is presented to a male or female graduating student-athlete with the highest grade point average who competed on the basketball, crew, track, soccer, baseball, or football team.
