Taylor takes home Ivy Rookie of the Week award

Leftfielder Ryan Taylor of the baseball team has been selected Ivy League Rookie of the Week.

Taylor, from Elmer, New Jersey, batted .333 with two home runs, four RBIs, and four extra-base hits across four games against Lehigh and Harvard.

In Penn’s 7-4 victory over the Mountain Hawks on March 22 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Taylor was 1-4 with one run and one RBI.

The Quakers played a three-game series against the Crimson at Meiklejohn Stadium from March 24-26 and went 1-2. On March 24, Taylor batted 1-3 in the Red & Blue’s 3-2 loss in 10 innings. In Penn’s 8-2 win on March 26—the first game of a doubleheader—he was 2-4 with two runs, one RBI, one double, and one home run.

Penn lost the second game 7-3. Taylor batted 1-4 with one run, two RBIs, and one home run.

As of March 27, he has a .278 batting average, fourth-highest on the team. He has also contributed 14 runs, 20 hits, four doubles, two triples, two home runs, and 10 RBIs.

Taylor is the third consecutive Quaker to be named conference Rookie of the Week. First-year infielder Davis Baker won the award& the previous two weeks.

The Red & Blue are 10-9 overall and 1-2 in the Ivy League. This weekend, they play a three-game series against Dartmouth (1-16, 0-3 in Ivy League) in New Hampshire.
