Hundreds of red and blue moving carts, a vast sea of Penn gear, and dozens of spirited volunteers are enlivening the University of Pennsylvania campus this week as nearly 6,000 undergraduates—along with Penn parents, families, and guests—arrive for Move-In.
Over the next week, 2,429 members of the Class of 2029 and 3,416 returning students are expected to move into one of Penn’s 13 College Houses. Before classes begin Tuesday, Aug. 26, New Student Orientation includes resource fairs, live performances, a Penn Welcome session, 101s on Penn history and traditions, and a trip to the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Staff from Residential Services and College Houses, along with PHINS (Peers Helping Integrate New Students) Orientation Leaders representing New Student Orientation & Academic Initiatives, have been on site providing logistical support and lending helping hands. Many PHINS are second-years who bring fresh insight to integrating with the Penn community.
Amid the annual Move-In festivities on Tuesday, Aug. 19, President J. Larry Jameson greeted incoming and current students and parents as well as Move-In volunteers beneath the Class of 2029 balloon arch near Hill College House and at the newly renovated Quadrangle. The Penn Band decorated the air with lively tunes as baton twirlers performed, families took selfies, and resource booths lined the walkway.
Penn parents and guests wished their first-years farewell and success as the Class of 2029 embarks upon their college journey.
