Virtual reality in an ancient world

Students create films to document the reimagining of the Penn Museum’s Ancient Egypt and Nubia galleries.

In the Virtual Reality Lab course taught by Peter Decherney, a dozen students produced three films using 360-degree cameras to capture the preparation to reimagine the Penn Museum’s Ancient Egypt and Nubia Galleries. Museum conservator Molly Gleeson filmed her narration atop scaffolding in the currently closed Lower Level of the Egypt Gallery, directed by student filmmakers, including Aiden Sessa, who advised her from below.

    Research led by Penn Dental’s Henry Daniell shows that antiviral and antibacterial chewing gums reduce the levels of three microbes linked to worse outcomes in oral cancers, paving the way for more effective and affordable therapies.
